Daily Site Safety Inspection

A daily walkthrough checklist covering housekeeping, PPE, fall protection, equipment, electrical safety, and emergency readiness on active construction sites.

Inspections

Run this inspection at the start of each shift, before crews begin work. It gives the superintendent or site safety lead a fast, consistent walkthrough of the conditions most likely to cause injuries or OSHA citations.

Housekeeping and access

• Walkways, stairs, and ramps are clear of debris, cords, and stored material
• Trash and scrap are collected in designated containers, not piled in work areas
• Materials are stacked stable, level, and away from edges and openings
• Protruding nails are bent over or pulled from lumber and formwork
• Adequate lighting is working in all active work areas, stairs, and corridors
• Site entrances, exits, and emergency routes are unobstructed

Personal protective equipment

• All workers on site are wearing hard hats in good condition
• Safety glasses or face shields are in use where required
• High-visibility vests or shirts are worn near traffic and equipment
• Hearing protection is available and used in high-noise areas
• Gloves and footwear are appropriate for the tasks under way

Fall protection

• Guardrails are complete at floor edges, ramps, and platforms 6 feet or more above lower levels
• Floor and roof openings are covered, secured, and marked, or protected by guardrails
• Workers exposed to falls are tied off with inspected harnesses and lanyards
• Anchor points are rated and appropriate for personal fall arrest use
• Leading-edge work has a fall protection plan in place and communicated

Tools and equipment

• Power tools have guards in place and are free of damaged cords or housings
• Defective tools are tagged out of service and removed from the work area
• Compressed gas cylinders are upright, secured, and capped when not in use
• Operators of forklifts, lifts, and heavy equipment are trained and authorized
• Daily equipment inspections are completed and documented by operators

Electrical

• Temporary power cords are rated for hard usage and free of cuts or exposed conductors
• GFCI protection is in place for all temporary power and cord-connected tools
• Electrical panels and disconnects are closed, labeled, and accessible
• Cords are routed to avoid water, traffic, and pinch points
• Lockout and tagout is applied to any circuit or equipment under service

Emergency readiness

• Fire extinguishers are charged, accessible, and inspected within the last month
• First aid kits are stocked and their locations are known to the crew
• Emergency contact numbers and the site address are posted at the site entrance
• Flammable liquids are stored in approved containers away from ignition sources
• Severe weather and evacuation procedures have been reviewed with the crew
